 Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Emergency Support Function 8 Training Course

 

The Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8) Training course consists of five modules focusing on the goals and objectives of ESF 8 and other annexes; disaster behavioral health response, including Psychological First Aid; disaster operations compensation; Emergency Operations Centers; Incident Command Structure; Medical Special Needs Shelters; and volunteer management. In addition, this course provides emergency preparedness and response strategies, resources, and management tools for evacuees and/or their caregivers. Each module is comprised of a presentation with goals of the lesson, pre-and post-tests, training evaluations and certificates of completion.

Objectives for the Course:

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) employees in Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF 8).
  • Explore the types of medical operations related to ESF 8 roles and responsibilities.
  • Examine DHH’s Human Resource policies related to emergency response operations.
  • Discuss the Incident Command System, and command staff roles and responsibilities.
  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities of Volunteer Management before, during, and after an emergency event.
  • Identify the role of Behavioral Health staff during emergency response operations.
