COURSE DESCRIPTION Concepts and terminology used in disease surveillance, screening and outbreak investigations will be briefly reviewed. The course will then address the preparation for and response to 4 broad classifications of terrorist events from an epidemiological perspective. This will include the application of screening and surveillance strategies, computation of measures of the health impact of such events, and study designs appropriate to the investigation of the short and long term impact of terrorist events. The four types of events that will be addressed are: nuclear, chemical, biological and explosive.
